José Manuel Bolieiro is the President of the Regional Government of the Azores, an autonomous region of Portugal. He took office in November 2020, leading a coalition government with his party. Bolieiro served as Mayor of Ponta Delgada, the largest city in the Azores, from 2012 to 2020. With a degree in Law, he dedicated much of his career to regional politics, focusing on the economic development and autonomy of the Azorean archipelago. Since 2020, President Bolieiro has led the Blue Azores Program, a partnership with Oceano Azul Foundation and Waitt Institute, in collaboration with University of Azores. He has been particularly active in the participatory process, attending meetings with ocean-related sectors and scientists to best determine the future of the Azorean Sea.
