Dr. Bolieiro holds a degree in Law from the University of Coimbra, Portugal. He was a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (1998-2009), having served as President of the Parliamentary Group of the Social Democratic Party (PSD) and of the Permanent Committee on General Policy. He also served as Mayor of the city of Ponta Delgada (2012-2020), President of the Board of Directors of the Association of Municipalities of São Miguel Island, and member of the Board of Directors of the National Association of Portuguese Municipalities. He chaired the Conference of the European Union Outermost Regions (2020-2021) and has been the President of PSD/Azores party since December 14, 2019. He is President of the Government of the Azores since November 24th 2020, and Member of the Portuguese Supreme Council for National Defense and Member of the Portuguese Council of State since February 2021.
